Outcomes
To restore the degrading ecosystem and combat the spread of pine bark beetle, I had led and completed LeafLegacy project to plant three 12-ft-tall Valley Oak trees at Lafayette Reservoir recreation area. These trees had been strategically planted alongside the trail near the entrance of the park.

Quercus Lobata (Valley Oak) is the best choice because of its adaption to the environment. It is drought tolerant, grow quickly, reaching 20 feet in 5 years, and and up to 60 feet in 20 years.

Mature oak trees can reach up to
100
feet tall
600
years old

Besides the ecological impact, LeafLegacy provides an opportunity for local community to participate in tree planting activities and promotes the understanding of the connection between nature, wildlife, and human well-being. Over the years, the majestic presence of these trees will increase the aesthetic value of the park as well as provide shade for the visitors to rest under. The trees will be maintained by the park rangers, ensuring they leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.
